About RadixPlants

RadixPlants is a plain-language reference for houseplant care — light, water, humidity, pet safety, and the real-world tips that keep a plant alive rather than just surviving. The name comes from radix, the Latin word for root: good care, like a healthy plant, starts from the roots up.

Why this site exists

Here’s something we noticed, watching ourselves and the people around us: plants rarely struggle because someone doesn’t care about them. They struggle because life gets busy — work, time, everything else that comes first on a given week — and most care advice quietly assumes you have neither. We’ve watched a genuinely loved plant decline not from neglectful ownership, but from an honest, ordinary lack of bandwidth.

So RadixPlants is built around that reality rather than around it. Our difficulty ratings aren’t just about how much a plant knows — they’re about how much a plant forgives. We favor real depth over thin data tables: the common problems people actually run into, honest guidance on which plants are safe around pets, and notes drawn from plants we grow ourselves, including the ones that turned out harder than their reputation suggested.

How our guides are written

Each guide is built to be genuinely useful rather than a data table. Care information reflects widely accepted horticultural guidance, and where we share personal experience we say so plainly. Pet-safety information is included because it matters — but it is general reference, and we always recommend confirming toxicity with a veterinarian or the ASPCA before making decisions for your household.
